News and updates

Hello Friends of Small Performances,

We’d love to share some news about what we’ve been up to.

We are into our second very busy year for the AHRC funded Small Performances interdisciplinary project. Colleagues in Birmingham have been working on an exhibition at the Library of Birmingham which went up last week, 6th March until 22nd May. Archive work on the peregrinations of the punches continues in London and Paris. There is also the unveiling of a Blue Plaque for John Baskerville on the 30th April in Birmingham to look forward to. Our collaborators Theatre(ish) have been doing amazing work in schools on Baskerville bringing his work to new audiences. Our jewellery colleagues have been working on scanning 3D punches along with technical colleagues at the UL in Cambridge. In discussion with CUPA as owners of the collection we are creating a detailed catalogue as well as new housing for the punches. In the archaeology department in Cambridge our archaeometallurgist has been continuing detailed work on the punches analysing their content and creation, our photographer and digital content team at the UL has taken some extraordinary images and short films. In Reading our typeface designers have been working with students in the Typographic department on a new Baskerville font. It’s all very exciting and we hope you’ll agree our findings are fascinating.

Further information and images of these things can be found on our Instagram and X

We just received delivery of a wonderful set of postcards designed by our UL team featuring the work of the team. If you are in Cambridge on Saturday 29th March please pop in to the Family Day of the Cambridge Festival to find out more about our work. We will be in the courtyard of the Student Services Building on the New Museum’s Site. You might be able to grab a postcard as a souvenir too.

We are always interested to hear from you so if you have any comments, questions or ideas about our project please get in touch.

Best wishes from the Small Performances team.
